It is Within Each of Us

“Each man must sooner or later learn to stand alone with his God; nothing else avails. Nothing else will ever make you master your own destiny.”

Emilie Cady, Lessons in Truth

“He [Jesus] knew, as no other man had, that what God has done God can do, that what was true of Him must be potentially true of all men.”

Eric Butterworth, Discover the Power Within You

One of the reasons that I have been away awhile, is that I have been focusing on obtaining a certification as a Licensed Unity Teacher. If you are not familiar with Unity, please check out Unity Worldwide Ministries or the place where I work, Unity North AtlantaOur teachings are based in practical Christianity and they have changed my life. More on that in another post, but today, I’d like to share a paper I recently wrote for my LUT studies. I’ve included Amazon links in the quotes above so you can take a look at the books I’m referencing. They contain great information on how to live in this often chaotic world.

The question we were asked for this paper was “Who do I need to support me in my quest to discover the power within me?” Below is my response. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

In “Discover the Power Within You”, Eric Butterworth makes reference to breaking down the “middle wall of partition” between man and God.  Jesus came to understand that this is an eternal process, this idea of the power within you. It is not something that we “accomplish” at any point in a human lifetime but it is simply, and mysteriously, the acceptance of “God’s time” which, in essence, is not time at all. Emilie Cady in “Lessons in Truth” continuously reminds us that God is the underlying substance of all things – “forever uncognizant of and unmoved by the changing things of time and sense.”

So when asked the question “Who do I need to support me in my quest to discover the power within me?” I must answer no one.

No one can do this for me. No book can truly tell me how, no number of human lifetimes are needed for me to discover the Truth that lies dormant. I think Cady says it best:

“Whoever you are that read these words, wherever you stand in the world, be it on the platform preaching the gospel or in the humblest little home seeking Truth, that you may make it manifest in a sweeter, stronger, less selfish life, know once and forever that you are not seeking God, but God is seeking you.”

If I simply open myself to that, the Truth will begin to manifest in my life. The discovery comes the quieter I become, the more able I am to receive – a little at a time, as I am ready. It’s wondrous to experience the illumination of the dark spots. No longer do I spin head first into an abyss of discontent and disappointment, fearful that I won’t be able to find my way back. In the quiet places I have found, I am caught before I crash, I straighten up when I stumble and bring back with me a bit of wisdom to share. Lessons now understood manifest as my life.

Jesus came to teach us, and to physically show us, what is possible if we simply and completely allow God to be God. We are not only a mind that thinks and designs and challenges the status quo. Yes, we are all that, as is God, but we are so much more! It is from the heart – the very core of who we are, the very first cells of our physical being – that we truly live. Seeing this beauty in everyone, this potentiality to love, is all we need do to begin to change the world. This is what Jesus did, what he taught and how he lived. It is all that is asked of each of us – to take the lessons as they are received and to share them.

This is the life I am manifesting. All is in God’s “time” so as I receive, I give out. I cannot and should not hold on to these gifts I receive. They are meant to be shared and I do so through service, through my written word and, more and more, through how I am living my life. I visualize and imagine a harmonious world in which people are creating only that which brings peace and joy to the planet and its beings. I am forever and eternally grateful for the experiences that have brought me and so many others here now as the Truth that Jesus and other Teachers have shown us is being realized. How magnificent is that!

“There must be an equal conscious receiving from the Father and giving out to the world, a perfect equilibrium between the inflowing and outgiving, to keep perfect harmony.”

Emilie Cady, “Lessons in Truth

“Even as it takes only a pinch of salt to change the taste of a pot of stew, so a handful of dedicated disciples can change the consciousness of the world.”

Eric Butterworth, Discover the Power Within You

It is within each of us, this power to change the world. All it takes is one step.

From my heart to yours,  Diane
