What is Enough?

I just checked my bank account. Running a little tight this month. These medical bills have put a dent in my….lifestyle…

Did I really just think that? My medical bills have affected my lifestyle? Seriously, Diane. Seriously?

Wow. Let’s rephrase that one! I am grateful that I have health insurance that paid a good portion of two surgeries and four hospital stays in the past 15 months not to mention the physician visits and prescriptions for the past 2 years where only a copay was needed.

It is something I believe (and I have heard from others) that we all struggle with. This feeling of “not enough”. Not enough money, not enough time, not enough sleep, not enough whatever.

When is it enough, though?

So I run short on cash. So what. There is another paycheck if I stay focused on doing good work, or, if there’s an emergency, another account that I could dip into if I really, really have to.

I have a busy day with many things that MUST be done TODAY. So what. It’ll get done sooner or later – with or without me.

The stupid cat woke me up at 5:30 a.m. again. So what. I’ll go to bed early tonight.

It’s up to me, and only me, to change the story. It’s up to me to recognize that there is so much more good in my life beyond what feels like not enough.

So, yes, I really am grateful. I am alive and well. These bills will be paid gradually and gratefully. Every time I am concerned about “not having enough” I give thanks for my life, for my job that not only satisfies me, but offers me health insurance and for my paycheck that allows me to pay these bills and to be happy living simply.

And a couple of cats that bring humor to this rather ordinary life.

We are all so much more than enough.

From my heart to yours, Diane
